ClickTime 6.32

We released ClickTime version 6.32 today. The update includes various session performance improvements and an initial beta release of our new Desktop App. The changes are as follows:

  1. Increased Session Length – We doubled the maximum session length to 8 hours. Session length is the amount of idle time between your last interaction with ClickTime and when you need to re-authenticate. A session length of 8 hours should allow a person to sign in once in the morning, start entering time, and not have to re-authenticate for an entire work day. The new option is in the Security Settings section of your Company Preferences. Customers on our Corporate plan have a maximum session length of 8 hours, and people on the Basic plan get their maximum length doubled to 4 hours. Customers who were previously set to the maximum session length will automatically get their setting updated to the new maximum value.
  2. Session Handling Improvements – We improved how your session is handled on the new Week View and Day View time entry interfaces, as well as the Job Estimation grid. Previously, you may have been told that your session had ended and need to sign-in again more frequently than expected. We've made sure that with every data request your web browser makes to our server, no matter how small, that we update your session appropriately so you don't need to re-authenticate as frequently.
  3. Desktop Application Beta – The initial beta release of our new ClickTime Desktop Application is now available. The new version includes extensive new features, a cleaner user interface, and tighter Web Timesheet integration.
  4. Updated Mobile Sign-in – The sign-in page for mobile devices (iPhone, Nexus One, BlackBerry, Palm Pre, iPod touch, etc.) has been updated to improve the interface for all modern smartphones and other devices. We look forward to using it on an iPad in the near future, too.
  5. Web Services – We would like to remind anyone still using web services version 2.1 to upgrade to the new version. We previously extended the availability of version 2.1 for a couple of months, but it will no longer be available after February 16, 2010.

Report formatting updated

Over the past few days, several customers informed us of a formatting issue with the time entry notes for some reports. The issue caused the font size to shrink down in an attempt to fit lengthier notes on one line. This problem should now be resolved for HTML, PDF and Excel formats. Your notes will now wrap vertically while retaining the proper font size. Additionally, any line breaks in the notes field will also be shown correctly. Please let us know if you have any additional issues or questions about your report formatting.

ClickTime 6.0

We are happy to announce ClickTime version 6.0 which introduces enhanced project and job estimation features. This update also includes a sign-in page refresh, new management dashboard, and updated reporting options.
The changes are as follows:

  1. Job Estimation – you can now create and manage estimates for your jobs and projects in up to six different ways. In addition to being able to define one estimate for the job as a whole, with the new Advanced Job Estimation module, you can now choose to break down estimates by person or by month (e.g. “we are expecting to work 100 hours per month for this project”). All customers can also now define estimates in hours or billed amounts (e.g. “we told the client the project will cost them $25,000”). You can enable and configure job estimation in your company preferences.
  2. Estimation Management – along with all of the new estimation options, there is a new robust management interface for entering estimates and viewing progress as well as comparing multiple projects at the same time. Once job estimation is enabled in your company preferences, the "Estimates" option will appear in the top navigation bar under the Company tab.
  3. Quick View Dashboard – your management dashboard has been updated with a new interface which includes easy access to your saved and favorite reports. A new estimation dashboard panel also provides at-a-glance viewing of your projects that are most in danger of going over budget.
  4. Updated "Job Estimate Comparison Report" – this report has been
updated to include a new design and to provide easy options for producing
HTML, Excel or PDF reports from any browser and OS.
  5. Updated "Export Job List" Report – this report has been
updated so that either the estimated time or estimated billed amount is exported according to your estimation configuration. No estimate value is exported for the job when you break down estimates by person or month.
  6. Invoice Report – you can now include your billable expenses as well as your time on client invoices.
  7. Enhanced QuickBooks Support – we now support the most recent U.S. releases of QuickBooks 2009 with our QuickBooks export reports. We also updated the IIF time export report to export the billable status when either jobs or tasks are configured as billable/non-billable.
  8. IE 8 – Microsoft's new release of Internet Explorer, version
8 is supported with ClickTime. A couple of features will require
turning on IE 7 compatibility mode.
  9. Updated Manual and Online Help – the PDF manual and our online help has been updated to include more screen shots and information regarding existing and new features.
  10. New Video Walkthroughs – new video tutorials are available, including a walkthrough of the new estimation features. Click the "Video Walkthroughs" link in the right bar of the Quick View page to access them.
  11. QuickDay and Zero-Hour Time Entries – QuickDay will now replicate zero-hour time entries from a previous day to your current day. This works when your account is configured to allow zero-hour time entries.
  12. Updated Sign-In Page – We figured the sign-in page was finally due for a face lift.
  13. Estimation Value Defaults – The default value of a job estimate changed from zero to being blank (no value). Any existing jobs that had an estimation value of zero hours will now appear as blank. This helps distinguish jobs you haven't entered an estimate for (i.e. blank) versus jobs you expect to perform no work on (e.g. “I estimate putting in zero hours this month on project A”).

October-November Updates

We don't have any tricks, but hopefully you'll think of our October and November updates as good treats. OK, pardon the bad post-Halloween humor but we've made several improvements during the past few weeks we hope you enjoy and find useful. The changes include:
Overdue Timesheet Reminder

  1. Automated Notifications and Reminders – You can now setup automatic email reminders to remind people to fill in their timesheets and submit them for approval. You can also configure your account to automatically bug people who haven't finished their timesheets a couple of days after the timesheet is due.
  2. Week View (beta) – A few customers have been randomly selected to get access to an updated Week View (beta) version, which includes numerous improvements and support for features such as AutoFill, Quickweek and custom alerts. We'll roll this out to more customers in the weeks ahead.
  3. Reports Updated – We redesigned and improved several reports to include more filtering options. All supported browsers (IE, Firefox and Safari) can now easily view the redesigned reports on-screen with HTML, PDF and Excel formats.
  4. Currency Options – For our Eastern European friends, the Russian Ruble, Polish Zloty, and other currencies are now available when entering foreign currency expenses.
  5. New Web Service Methods – You can now add people to your account and edit the user records via web services.

ClickTime 5.7

While many of you may have been away on vacation in July, we rolled out version 5.7 which included a variety of new features and improvements to existing ones. In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights.

  1. Labels and Expenses – You can now mark expenses as "exported" or any other value by utilizing labels at the time of export. When exporting expense data, you can also now exclude expenses marked with a particular label. For example, you may exclude all expenses that were previously marked as "exported to QuickBooks."
  2. Duplicate a Job – You can now easily create a new job by duplicating an existing job. When duplicating the job, you may optionally duplicate the billing rates, custom field values, job structure (e.g. phases and sub-phases) and restriction settings from the original job.
  3. Week View (beta) – We added the ability to submit your timesheet and many other UI and performance improvements to the Week View (beta) based on your suggestions. Keep letting us know what you like and don’t like about this time entry interface.
  4. Report Builder and Custom Fields – You can now include custom fields when creating your own reports with the Report Builder tool.
  5. QuickBooks Invoice Export Enhanced – You can now associate a QuickBooks Invoice Revenue Account with tasks as well as jobs. This information is then included in the QuickBooks Invoice Export.
  6. Firefox 3 Compatibility – We now officially support version 3 of the Firefox web browser for Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.

For more details about the changes in version 5.7, see our release notes.
